Updated on 06/23/2024
The Royal Canadian Mint began minting the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin in 1988.
The Silver Maple leaf has a purity of 99.99% silver and is one of the purest bullion coins minted today.
Among bullion investors and coin collectors, the Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin is one of the most sought-after bullion coins in the world.
Obverse
The 2023 Silver Maple Leaf is the last year of Queen Elizabeth II's effigy on the obverse side.
To commemorate the Queen's reign, the Royal Canadian Mint included the double date of her reign, 1952 ∙∙∙∙ 2022.
The four pearls between the dates symbolize the four effigies of the Queen that have graced Canadian coins since her coronation in 1952.
Note: Only three different effigies of Queen Elizabeth II graced the obverse side of the Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin, as seen here.
The obverse side of the Canadian Silver bullion coin displays the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Susanna Blunt.
Inscriptions:
The Royal Canadian Mint added radial lines to make it harder for counterfeiters to reproduce the coins; these lines are on both sides of all the Canadian Maple Leaf bullion coins.

Reverse
Canada's national symbol, the Maple Leaf, which Walter Ott designed, is the centerpiece on the reverse side of the Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin.

In 2013, the Royal Canadian Mint added a security feature to the 1oz. Canadian Gold Maple Leaf bullion coin's reverse side.
The Micro-Engraved Maple Leaf security mark was designed and produced by the Royal Canadian Mint laser technology.
Inside the laser-engraved maple leaf is a "numeral" indicating the coin's "Year of Issue," which is more easily visible under magnification.
In 2014, the RCM added this feature to the reverse side of the 1oz Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin.
Inside each Micro-Engraved Maple Leaf on every Canadian Maple Leaf bullion coin is a unique imprinted security mark.
No two security marks are the same; the Royal Canadian Mint (RCM) has given each bullion coin its own DNA code, which can only be cross-referenced with the RCM for authentication.
MINTSHIELD™, by the Royal Canadian Mint, is the world's first and only proven solution for reducing white spots or 'milk spots' on silver bullion coins.
Since 2018, every Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin has had the MINTSHIELD™ applied to it.
The video below offers a quick overview of all the security features of each Silver and Gold Maple Leaf Bullion Coin.
