Homepage / Bullion Coins: Russian Bullion / Saint George the Victorious - Russian Silver
Last Updated on 07/21/2024
On January 11th. 2009, the Bank of Russia authorized the production of the first Russian silver bullion coin.
The Saint George the Victorious Russian silver bullion coins are made with a high artistic standard and are a beautiful investment coin.
Since ancient times, the depiction of Saint George the Victorious defeating the Dragon has served as a state symbol on princely seals, standards, coats of arms, and coinage in Russia and many other countries.
Saint George's image was an element of the state emblem of the Russian Empire before the USSR (1882-1917); since 1993, Russia has returned Saint George to the State Emblem of the Russian Federation (Coat of Arms of Russia).
The State Emblem of the Russian Federation displays a gold two-headed eagle with raised extended wings against a four-cornered red heraldic shield with rounded lower corners depicting Saint George in a blue cape, mounted upon a silver horse and slaying a black dragon with a silver spear.
Two crowns top the eagle's heads, with one large crown above them. The three crowns are linked by a ribbon. The eagle holds a scepter in its right claw and an orb in its left claw.
Obverse
Released in 2009, the 31.10-gram Saint George the Victorious Silver bullion coin was the first coin released in the series (right).
From 2009-2015, the obverse side featured the emblem of the Bank of Russia (БАНК РОССИИ); since 2016, the obverse has changed to the State Emblem of the Russian Federation (Coat of Arms of Russia).
The centerpiece on the obverse side of the 2024 Saint George the Victorious silver bullion coin features a relief image of the State Emblem of the Russian Federation (Coat of Arms of Russia), designed by E.V. Kramskaya.
