 Canadian
Gold Maple Leaf
Half oz. (1/2) Bullion Coin

In 1986, the 1/2 oz. Gold Maple Leaf bullion coin became the fourth installment to the Maple Leaf bullion coin series, seven years after the Royal Canadian Mint introduced the 1 oz. Canadian Maple Leaf gold bullion coin.

The Royal Canadian Mint added in 1982 the quarter-ounce and the tenth-ounce to the Gold Maple Leaf bullion coin series.

The Canadian Gold Maple Leaf bullion coin has a purity of 99.99%, making them one of the purest investment coins in the world.

Obverse

2024 - 1/2 oz. Canadian Gold Maple Leaf bullion coin - obverse

The obverse side of the 1/2 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf bullion coin displays the effigy of King Charles III of Great Britain, designed by Steven Rosati, a Canadian award-winning portrait artist.

Inscriptions:

  • CHARLES III
  • 20 DOLLARS
  • Year of Issue
  • SR - initials of Steven Rosati on the King's jacket collar

From 1952 through 2022, Queen Elizabeth II faced the right, and now the King of England, Charles III, faces the left.

Switching the direction a monarch faces on Canadian coinage for the British Royal Family is a tradition that dates back to the 17th century.

The Edge of the gold coin is Reeded.

Reverse

The reverse side of the 1/2 oz gold bullion coin displays Canada's National Symbol, the Canadian Maple Leaf, designed by Walter Ott

The golden maple leaf is displayed with extremely high detail, so much so that you can visibly see the veins in every part of the maple leaf.

Walter Ott died on November 9th, 2020, at the age of 100; his family wrote in his obituary the following: "Of the more than 1000 coins and medals he brought into production, he was proudest of the Canadian Gold Bullion Maple Leaf he designed and modeled."

Inscriptions:

  • CANADA
  • 9999 (purity)
  • FINE GOLD
  • 1/2 OZ
  • OR PUR  ("Pure Gold" in French)

The Royal Canadian Mint added radial lines to make it harder for counterfeiters to reproduce the coins; these lines are on both sides of all the Canadian Maple Leaf bullion coins.
